Breathing exercises have been proven to reduce the intensity of panic attacks by ten times or more. The muscles which hold the airways open relax and the breathing can become regulated. Biofeedback monitors are also available which can be used to provide real-time feedback on what is happening in the body.

If you are fearful of panic attacks and you’ve tried everything to make them stop and failed, this is when you may want to consider practicing relaxation techniques such as breathing and relaxation exercises. Staying calm when you feel nervous is the best way to go. Exercising regularly will also help.

Taking medication may work for some people but if you are just looking for a short term solution, you may not be effective. On the other hand, cognitive therapy can be very effective in the long run as long as the person is willing to learn and be taught. There are many books and magazines available that can give you a crash course in the techniques of anxiety relief.
